Novobiocine-natriumzout is een effectief antistaphylococcus middel dat wordt gebruikt bij de behandeling van methicilline-resistente Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).Het wordt ook gebruikt om de activiteit van retrovirale RNA-afhankelijke DNA-polymerase te remmen, evenals remmer van bacterieel DNA-gyrase en eukaryotisch DNA-topoisomerase.
